I had previously studied the a crack that separated the two parts of the bark within the tree. I wanted to use oil pastels again, I felt that it would work especially well with the darkness of the split. In addition to that I knew what colours worked better with each other therefore felt I was ready to create this piece. However, this piece really did not turn out well, the shape of the sketch was completely wrong therefore none of the colours worked together, they all seemed to be in the wrong place, and order. It just didn't work. So I left oil pastel behind and went back to charcoal. I just focused on the actual split in this piece, I did not add the darkness of the split into the middle where it showed up, as I said before I just focused on the split. I am happy with how this piece turned out, it helped me to really look at how the two sides have broke apart and really capture the rigid sides.
