Looking at leaves

These studies represent the different parts of the leaf that I had found and began to adore. I haven't actually draw from the picture I have taken yet because I need to print the pictures off, working from a little screen doesn't allow you to fully see what you are observing. Therefore there would be no point in calling it observational drawings. I used three different mediums on this page, charcoal, pencil and fine liner. Using a pencil I timed myself two minutes and began to draw the outline of the leaf. I don't think that this piece turned out well, it looks very basic, showing no tonal value and it does not even look like a leaf in my opinion. The second drawing was off the vein-like stems that show when you turn the leaf over. I was pleased with how this piece turned out, although it does look a bit like a tree, I feel that I have presented  what I saw well. The final drawing shows a small patch of texture I could see on the leaf. I like this piece the most, it shows so much texture that I had previous not shown therefore it draws you in, making you look closer at it, focusing on it more. Overall these studies turned out well, I feel that I have learnt from them. I need to stop looking at the object as a whole, firstly because I am studying the topic of magnification and secondly because I cherish texture and being able to draw it within my work is a real benefit to me.
