Too in detailed

I decided that I wanted to draw the rope that ran throughout the middle of the rope, in which hold the rope together. For this piece, I used a pencil and set myself the time limit of four minutes. However, once I got into this drawing, I completely ignored the time therefore ended up spending ten minutes on it. I should be ashamed I know. I became so focused on drawing the detail and creating a contrast between the different colours, that I ended up spending too much time on a small drawing. However, I am pleased with this drawing, although it took way too much time to draw, it does represent magnification. This piece of rope in real life is tiny compared to the big strands that surround it. Using my macro lense, I was able to portray the miniscule rope and magnify it to become the centre of attention. I took something that was insignificant and gave it power by magnifying it.

Whilst I was happy with the drawing that started this page, even if it did take a long time to create, I have to draw your attention to the mess created on the rest of the page. I will obviously be refining this page once I feel like I have completed enough observational drawings to support my work. I have decided to post and talk about this page because I feel that I have to show the rest of the page to the drawing I did above. In addition to that this page links closely with what I decided to observe and draw on the next page. I had decided to draw a sketch on the rope loosely falling away, however it did not go well. Although I had tried to rub it out, it had still left an unwanted mark there. Anyhow I decided to carry on drawing the bend in rope since it had previously caused a problem for me to draw. This also went wrong, I don't know why I chose to start rubbing the drawings out, maybe I panicked, I still not sure. Well, I did decide to rub them out which caused an awful smudge created on my page. I feel that I had began to draw to in detail, for example, I could take ten minutes just focusing on drawing one strand of rope. Although this would probably look good, I don't have the time to sit there and do that. I know I can make quick sketches of rope within my book just as detailed but in a shorter amount of time. To conclude, I felt that I needed to just focus on quick sketches to get me out of the rut I had put myself in.
