Continuing with using charcoal, I carried on with drawing parts of the plant that really interested me. I began by looking at the tiny vein like textures that ran throughout the leaf. The scientific explanation for the use of these vien is to carry nutrients and water evenly throughout the leaf evenly, but I drew it because I liked the texture. Overall, I like this piece, I feel I have looked at the form of the leaf, tiny parts that come together to form the piece. I believe that it represents indistinct well, it shows observational drawing whilst supporting indistinct by just focusing on one part of it making it look different, almost like it's out of focus. The second drawing was of the raised plant sections which I could see within surface of the plant. They created an purpley surface on the plant and were covered with tiny yellow dots on top of it. I have drawn it before using fine liner, however didn't like how it turned out. I feel that it looked nothing like what I could see therefore there was no point in drawing it. Although it may have been wise to not draw this again since I had previous struggled with it, I really cherished the texture and tonal values that had spread throughout, so I decided to re-create it using charcoal. A medium in which I feel is easy to work within. I am happy with how this piece turned out, I manage to created the shapes I could see from the leaf, in addition to that I created the tonal value that I could see throughout the piece. The final drawing you can see on my page is not really a drawing, it's more like a huge black smudge. This was not purposely created to look like this. I did have the intentions to create a piece in which shows tonal value. I just wanted to focus on shading from light to dark, to practice creating tonal value. Overall I really dislike this piece, it looks awful, I got stuck and ending up shading, more like colouring, the whole thing black. I tried to use a rubber to make the tone that I had fatefully lost out on, but it didn't work. Therefore I am stuck with a horrible black smudge showing nothing, with no meaning at all. Although this does take attention away from the other two charcoal drawings, I feel that I will easily be able to cover this up or refine it.
