I continued to look at the tree the I had been able to observe. I wanted to use charcoal to look at parts of it that interested me because I have realized that I tend to work well with charcoal and I enjoy using it more than pencil. However, I still wanted to use biro more. I had used it on the previous pages and really liked how it turned out therefore decided to use it again. I focused on bark breaking off from another piece, this created a crack, a blackness which I liked. I wasn't happy with how this piece turned out, it looked a lot like the piece that I had previously drawn which was not good because I was drawing a completely different thing. Therefore I felt charcoal was good to start with. I began by drawing a patch of the texture I could see, I feel that this piece turned out well. I manage to create the shape, however struggled with using the correct tonal values throughout it. I enjoyed using biro to look at tree part breaking off, so I looked for more parts around the tree to study. It may seem like I am over studying what I can see but I find this object so interesting to draw, and I can incorporate different mediums into drawing it. So I ended up finding a part of the tree in which a crack split two parts. Looking at it closely made it look huge, however when I took a step back it seemed like nothing. I really liked this, it took my topic of indistinct to another level. So I started to created what I could see in charcoal. I really liked how this turned out, you can clearly see the split between the two sides and the charcoal added a lot of definition to it.
