A few pages in

I started by drawing different objects that interested me. This page was drawn a few pages into my sketchbook, I had previous annotated the others so have simply put pictures of them up on my blog, because I feel that it would be pointless to talk about them again. I decided to stop annotating in sketchbook because I feel that it doesnt give me enough space to talk about my drawings in detail and I don't like my handwriting, it takes up half a page when I write sentence therefore I think that it is just irrelevant to write all over my drawings when I can use my blog, in which I adore. These drawings were all observational drawing of rope, I wanted to focus on how the rope has been bound together to create these twists and turns within it. I had set myself the time limit of four minutes to do each one of these drawings. The previous paged showed pieces of rope being drawn in pencil, however I dislike the way this turned out, it looked contrived and had little to none movement within it. Therefore I decided to use charcoal to draw with, I feel that is turned out well, it created movement within the drawing and it allowed me to shade the rope in the correct place. I wanted to use charcoal again but could not just repeat the process, so I decided to place pieces of newspaper underneath. This created a solid base of texture to draw on, the different lines within the paper caused movement to draw on, and added more movement within the rope. However, I dislike the shape of the rope created, I feel that is looks nothing like rope, the shapes created on the left have become completely out of place. To conclude, I don't like this piece, although I feel that it does present the movement of rope, it doesn't have the shape of rope at all. Finally, I decided to use ripped up pieces of newspaper to created the final observational drawings. I wanted to use a different medium this time so I used pen. I was happy with the way this piece turned out. I feel that I had captured the shape and movement of the rope. However the newspaper background may have not been the best to use, it was too dark in parts therefore did not show up all of the shading that I created.
