Charcoal studies

After feeling as if I have been given a new lease of life with my change of topic, I began to look at a plant that I had found in more detail. I actually found it within my garden, the name of the plant is a Yucca. The best way to describe it is a spiky green plant in which grows from the ground in a arbitrary type fashion. So, I decided to started to look the detail I could see within the plant. The topic of indistinct gives me the chance to look at the detail of objects, whilst magnification let me do this, indistinct will allow me to eventually look at creating abstract pieces of work based on my observational studies. Therefore I began to look close at my Yucca leafs. I began to create charcoal studies looking at the different textures and tonal values running through the leafs. I was happy with how the first draw turned out. It shows the different lights that have changed the way I have seen the leaf and interpreted it into my own way. I created this piece by using charcoal, and creating light and dark tones throughout it. The second piece was created by using charcoal and a rubber. I really like the way I could fill the section with black charcoal and then make marks using a rubber. I feel that it is a new interesting way of making marks, it allows me to take away the darkness and adding light slowly, rather than having to create darkness around light. The third piece was created with a thick black charcoal. I used white chalk and rubber within this piece. I also enjoy the elaborate marks created, although it took me two minutes to create this piece and it's only a strip of charcoal, I feel that it could show the intricateness of a landscape faded out by a black mist. I feel that this is the beauty of studying the topic of indistinct. I started by creating an observational drawings of the textures within a Yucca leaf, but then the drawing help me to develop my idea of what I could want to draw. To conclude, I feel that this experiment has been successful, I have been able to create the textures that I could see throughout the plant, in addition to that I have be able to show the topic of indistinct.
